The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo has accused opposition parties of staging videos of attacks on All Progressives Congress posters to portray President Bola Tinubu and the ruling party as unpopular.
Keyamo made the allegation in a post on X, accompanying it with a video of a man tearing down APC posters while allegedly holding a weapon.
He described the man as a sponsored opposition thug and argued that the recording and circulation of the incident suggested a planned publicity exercise.
The minister alleged that similar videos from other parts of the country were being promoted as evidence of public rejection of Tinubu.
He said the conduct of one individual could not reasonably establish the political preferences of Nigeria’s electorate.
Keyamo also accused some journalists and media organisations of reporting incidents involving rival political parties inconsistently.
He cited an episode in Lagos the previous week in which some individuals reportedly pasted Tinubu’s posters over an opposition party’s.
While condemning the action, he alleged it drew stronger criticism and was presented as evidence of intimidation by ruling-party supporters.
The minister stressed that his comments should not be interpreted as an invitation to retaliate.
“This is not a call on the teeming APC supporters to retaliate in any form,” he said.
Keyamo alleged that opposition parties were trying to discredit the APC ahead of the 2027 presidential election and lay the groundwork to reject an unfavourable result.
He urged international observers to monitor political developments and claimed that opposition defeats in recent by-elections indicated the likely outcome of the next presidential contest.
The account contained no response from the accused opposition parties.
