President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria is entering 2026 with renewed economic confidence, saying the country has crossed a difficult phase and is now positioned for stronger and more sustainable growth.
In his New Year goodwill message to Nigerians, the President said the nation arrived in 2026 with hope and determination after a year of hard choices and reforms.
“I welcome you all to 2026, with gratitude to God and confidence in our collective resolve that this new year will be a more prosperous one for our nation, our citizens, and all who call Nigeria home,” he said.
Reviewing developments in 2025, the President noted that his administration stayed the course on reforms despite global economic pressures.
“During 2025, we sustained the momentum on our major reforms. We had a fiscal reset and also recorded steady economic progress,” he said.
He acknowledged that the reform journey had not been easy but insisted that it was necessary.
“Despite persistent global economic headwinds, we recorded tangible and measurable gains, particularly in the economy,” he said.
According to him, those gains are proof that the country is moving in the right direction. “These achievements reaffirm our belief that the difficult but necessary reforms we embarked upon are moving us in the right direction with more concrete results on the horizon for the ordinary Nigerian,” the President said.
He assured Nigerians that the focus in 2026 would be to consolidate progress and ensure broader benefits.
“As we enter 2026, our focus is on consolidating these gains and continuing to build a resilient, sustainable, inclusive, and growth-oriented economy,” he said.
