President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on electoral authorities, political parties and security agencies to ensure free, fair and credible elections in Ekiti and Osun states.
In his Democracy Day address on Friday, the President stressed that public confidence in elections remains fundamental to democratic stability.
“In the coming days, Ekiti and Osun States will hold elections. I urge INEC, security agencies, and all parties to ensure these polls are peaceful and credible,” he said.
The President warned that democracy suffers whenever citizens lose faith in electoral processes.
“Democracy fails when citizens doubt the process,” he said.
The President said Nigeria’s democratic journey over the past 27 years has demonstrated the importance of resolving political disputes through constitutional means rather than violence.
He urged political actors to conduct themselves responsibly and place national interest above partisan considerations.
According to him, peaceful elections strengthen democratic institutions and reinforce public trust in governance.
He also called on citizens to participate actively in the electoral process and uphold democratic values.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the independence of electoral institutions and ensuring that elections reflect the will of the people.
He maintained that credible elections remain one of the strongest foundations for national unity and sustainable development.
