The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), in collaboration with the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT), has commenced a five-day training programme from January 22 to January 27, 2024.

The theme of the training, taking place at the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Conference Hall in Asokoro, Abuja, is “Managing Defence in a Wider Security Context.”

Speaking at the event, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa encouraged participants drawn from various West African countries to focus on the training.

The CDS, who was represented by the Director Peacekeeping Operations at the DHQ, Major General H. I. Mabeokwe, extended warm welcome and gratitude to the British Military Advisory Training Team.

He said the training curriculum is designed to address the challenges of managing defence in the context of broader security considerations.

Lectures at the event would cover a wide range of topics including Regional Security and the New World Order, Challenges for Human Security in West Africa in the 21st Century, International Human Rights Law, Rules of Engagement, and Maintaining Integrity in Complex Security Environments, among others.

The sessions would feature syndicated presentations and exercises to facilitate interactive learning.

Lieutenant Colonel Dominic Spencer, Dr Caroline Midelewright and other directing staff are slated to deliver the lectures, providing valuable insights and expertise to the participants.

The collaboration between the Defence Headquarters and the British Military Advisory Training Team underscore the commitment to advancing knowledge and expertise in defence management within the West African region. By fostering international cooperation and sharing best practices, the training aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the participating military personnel in addressing evolving security challenges.
