President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna in honour of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, one of the most influential figures in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.
The President made this known during his Democracy Day address on Friday.
According to him, the decision is intended to recognise Yar’Adua’s enduring contributions to nation-building and democratic development.
“Among the architects of modern democratic Nigeria, we honour General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua for his vision of national partnership,” he said.
The President disclosed that the Federal Government has approved the revitalisation and renaming of the institution.
“In recognition of his contributions, the Federal Government has approved the revitalisation and renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology,” he said.
He said the country must continue to celebrate leaders whose sacrifices and vision helped shape modern Nigeria.
Yar’Adua, who died in prison in 1997, remains one of the most respected figures in Nigeria’s political history.
Widely regarded as a bridge-builder and consensus leader, he played a major role in mobilising support for democratic governance and national unity.
