The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Gombe State, Bala-Bello Tinka, has promised free fuel for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators if elected in 2027.

Speaking during an interview, Tinka said the programme would form part of his proposed response to the hardship facing transport operators following the removal of the fuel subsidy.

He had also announced a one-day free-fuel exercise to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, directing operators to designated filling stations between 6am and 6pm on October 1.

Tinka said the gesture was intended to reduce operating costs and provide relief for riders during the celebration.

He pledged to sustain a fuel-support programme if elected, although the account did not provide details of its financing or the quantity each operator would receive.

On healthcare, he promised free treatment for children under five and residents over 70.

He said inability to pay hospital bills should not prevent vulnerable residents from receiving medical attention.

The ADC candidate also proposed changes to fertiliser procurement, saying his administration would purchase from local wholesalers rather than directly from manufacturers.

He said that patronising local suppliers would retain more expenditure within Gombe, strengthen agro-dealers and generate employment.

Tinka pledged to give indigenous contractors priority in government projects, engaging firms and professionals from outside the state only where the required expertise was unavailable locally.

He also promised a comprehensive investigation into the causes of persistent water shortages in Gombe metropolis and other affected areas.

According to him, the findings would guide a lasting solution to the water crisis.

Tinka urged residents to support the ADC in 2027, promising an administration that would widen access to essential services and economic opportunities.
