President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the abduction of children in Oyo and Borno states, assuring families that the government remains committed to securing their safe return.
Speaking during his Democracy Day address on Friday, the President said the incidents had cast a shadow over the national celebration.
“Though this year’s mood is dampened by the abduction of our children in Oyo and Borno, we remain hopeful for their safe return,” he said.
The President described the safety of citizens as a fundamental responsibility of government and reiterated his administration’s determination to confront insecurity nationwide.
“Democracy without security is a mirage,” he stated.
The President said that the fight against insecurity remains one of the administration’s top priorities.
He pointed to ongoing recruitment into the police and armed forces, increased budgetary allocations and intensified military operations as evidence of the government’s commitment.
According to him, substantial resources have been mobilised to strengthen the nation’s security architecture and protect vulnerable communities.
The President assured affected families that security agencies are working tirelessly to rescue abducted victims and bring perpetrators to justice.
While expressing sympathy with the victims and their loved ones, the President called on Nigerians to remain united in confronting criminality.
“At a time like this, let us not assign blame or point fingers. Crime has no ethnicity,” he said.
He stressed that national unity remains essential in overcoming security challenges and restoring peace across the country.
“We must stand united and be assured that the enemies of our nation shall soon be history,” he said.
The President expressed confidence that Nigeria would eventually overcome insecurity and emerge stronger.
“We will triumph over terror and continue to build a more prosperous nation,” he said.
